I trained in Local Government Finance in my home town of Nottingham and am a qualified Public Finance Accountant and Certified Accountant. I moved to Peterborough in 1978 with my wife Carol as Assistant Chief Finance Officer with the Development Corporation and oversaw the financing of the Werrington development and the completion of the Ferry Meadows Country Park.
Although my family of four has grown up in Peterborough, my career took me to London, initially as Director with International Accountants, Price Waterhouse. I subsequently became a Partner with Ernst and Young where I ran a part of the London Office Financial and Business Consulting Group, working with clients in the UK and across parts of Europe and the US.
Over the past few years I have become more involved in the Peterborough community; I am Chairman of Peterborough and Fenland MIND, Chairman of my local Pastoral Church Council, Treasurer of the Thorney Heritage Museum and also served as Hon. Treasurer of Age UK, Peterborough for several years. I have recently joined the main Board of City College, Peterborough.
I was delighted to be elected to represent Hargate and Hempsted and together with my colleagues Cllrs. Janet Goodwin and Irene Walsh I am proud to represent that community. Hampton is a great place for people and particularly families to live and grow and we have to keep it that way. Since being elected I have been appointed Chair of the City Council’s Audit Committee.
