Born in the UK, and having lived and worked overseas, Irene brings a wealth of professional experience to the role. She has worked as a teacher of ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) and in a senior role in a venture capital company.

In 2006 she was elected to Peterborough City Council and has served on a number of committees. In May 2009 she was elected Mayor of the City and in the subsequent year joined the Cabinet, with a wide portfolio brief.  She chaired the New War Memorial Committee and was a founding member of Inspire Peterborough, an organisation working to increase sporting and leisure activities for the disabled.

Irene stepped down from her position in May 2015 for family reasons, but returned in May 2016 and currently represents Hargate & Hempsted Ward. She is a member of Peterborough City Council’s Cabinet and holds the portfolio of Communities and Environment Capital.
