Steve is 61,married to Marion and has lived in Somersham all his life. His professional background started in farming, then fruit growing with the local family business. In 2000, he took a Diploma in Garden Design and ran his own business until 2009, by which time his increasing responsibilities as a Councillor took over.
Steve has been a Somersham Parish Councillor for 27 years and is currently chairman. He has been a District Councillor for 13 years and a County Councillor for over 10 years.
On Huntingdonshire District Council he spent 10 years chairing the Scrutiny Panel for Health and Social Well-being. He has shown a particular interest in our local hospital since helping collect 55,000 signatures to ‘Save Hinchingbrooke Hospital’ in 2006 and accompanying our 2 local MPs to 10 Downing Street. He served on the Trust Oversight Group until the hospital was taken out of Special Measures last year.
At Cambridgeshire County Council Steve has held 2 Cabinet posts with responsibility for Service Transformation and then Highways. Since the council moved to the ‘Committee System’ in 2015, Steve has been the Conservative Spokesman for Highways & Community Infrastructure as well as the cross-party lead on Community Resilience.
He is most passionate about supporting his local communities and helping local residents.
